Love it or leave it. An interview with UNSANE

New York noise rock trio UNSANE is back to smash your brain with their noise-laden sonic assault. The band is just about to bring out a remastered version of their self-titled debut album (on September 23rd) and tour intensively all over Europe. Chris Spencer [vocalist/guitarist] willingly told me all about living in New York in the 80s, playing shows in CBGB, recording s/t and his deep love for horror movies. This guy has sooooo many great stories!

Soundtrack Of My Life: Sean Nicholas Savage

In 2020 – as the pandemic took a little summer break and polish officials allowed to organize small outdoor concerts, I went to Opole to my beloved Songwriters Festival. Two days of fun came to close with an outstanding concert of Sean Nicholas Savage who performed in a rather small tent during an enormous storm having only his backing tracks as a company. And even though the world seemed to fall apart for a moment, the gathered crowd couldn’t take their eyes and ears from Sean who owned the stage like he was born on it. Truly a magical performance. This week he’s coming back. This time with a band and visiting not only Opole, but also Warsaw and Poznań weeks before the premiere of his next album – “Shine”. Is there a better time to ask about his favourite music? I don’t think so! Continue Reading “Soundtrack Of My Life: Sean Nicholas Savage”

Top 5 of the non metal related records that inspired Wyatt E. as a band

^{pic by John Van de Mergel}

Wyatt E. are cloaked in mystery, very much allowing their music to do the talking. And when it talks, it provides deep meditation and other-worldly vibes in abundance. Layering instrumentation and atmospherics to create a hypnotic soundscape that ebbs and flows, taking listeners on a journey far beyond the physical realm. Everyone is a hypocrite. An interview with Amyl and the Sniffers

Speaking via zoom with Australian bands is always kind of weird. You finish your first coffee, they’re almost in their beds. You’ve just came back from a big festival, even though there’s still pandemic raging here – they’re on strict lockdown and curfew, despite their pandemic situation being significantly better. Oh, and there’s always at least one mention of AC/DC. But hey, it couldn’t be more pleasant. Continue Reading “Everyone is a hypocrite. An interview with Amyl and the Sniffers”

Is coming back from thirteen year hiatus an easy thing to do? Genghis Tron proved this year with their new album – “Dream Weapon” that it may be hard, but also worth it. Music has always been an outlet for me. An interview with Milena from GOLD

On the day of the GOLD’s live stream concert, as part of Roadburn Redux, a post appeared on their Facebook profile. It was published by, Milena, the band’s vocalist. In a touching words, she admitted that at the age of nineteen she was raped by someone she was in love with. It turned her life upside down and that she lived for many years with shame. She was running from her trauma, but memories came back during the lockdown. Furthermore, she added that the material they will present at Roadburn – “This Shame Should Not Be Mine” is devoted to her experience. Continue Reading “Music has always been an outlet for me. It’s about creating worlds. An interview with Black Midi

It’s amazing how time flies. Seems like yesterday, when we’ve interviewed Geordie Greep and Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin – both guitarists and vocalists of then next big thing and british noise rock phenomenon – Black Midi. Almost two years later and they have the world tour in their portfolio (and they didn’t have too much time for that, since Covid hit 6 months after our interview during OFF Festival), a temporary change of line-up (Matt took a break from the band to focus on his mental health) and second album – “Cavalcade” – coming. What’s a better time to check on them? This time I spoke with Morgan Simpson – Black Midi’s genius drummer. Continue Reading “It’s about creating worlds. An interview with Black Midi”
