It’s about creating worlds. An interview with Black Midi

It’s amazing how time flies. Seems like yesterday, when we’ve interviewed Geordie Greep and Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin – both guitarists and vocalists of then next big thing and british noise rock phenomenon – Black Midi. Almost two years later and they have the world tour in their portfolio (and they didn’t have too much time for that, since Covid hit 6 months after our interview during OFF Festival), a temporary change of line-up (Matt took a break from the band to focus on his mental health) and second album – „Cavalcade” – coming. What’s a better time to check on them? This time I spoke with Morgan Simpson – Black Midi’s genius drummer. Continue Reading „It’s about creating worlds. An interview with Black Midi”

Just go and see your favorite band. An interview with FACS

FACS is one of those bands whose plans have been severely disrupted by the pandemic. They had just released their album Void Moments and were packing up for a European tour when COVID-16 came. Band decided to turn their energy and frustration into creative work, which is why they are now coming back with a new album, Present Tense. Brian Case, the singer and founder of FACS, spoke with me about their creative process, living in isolation, the Chicago music scene, living off streaming and – oh yes – concert plans. This is considered a band only because that’s how the world exists. An interview with The Armed

We’ve tried to do this interview for so long, I fell into a little deception that this band is known for. As nearly every journalist that tried to talk with The Armed during their ULTRAPOP promo cycle, I was set to talk with some Adam Vallely. Take a look on Instagram, and you’ll find a very nice guy who’s definitely a fan, is pretty aware or even a part of the joke but he’s not a part of the band. Poetry is like wandering in the woods by myself. An interview with Eric Paul

Pic: Becky DiGiglio

I don’t know how many times in the last year I have recommended Psychic Graveyard here on Undertone. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before I set up an interview with Eric Paul, its singer. Eric is quite a legendary character – you can associate him with such bands as Arab On Radar, Chinese Stars or Doomsday Student. The Providence scene would not be the same without his participation, which should be appreciated by the fans of math and noise rock. He’s also an incredibly nice guy and a sensitive artist who has a lot of anecdotes about your favorite bands.

It’s all part of the journey. An interview with HEADS.

For me HEADS. is one of those full-package kind of bands. The atmosphere in their work is so intense you could cut it with a knife, and their music is an aesthetic on it’s own- bleak and loud but then out of nowhere it mesmerises you with a beautiful melody. They are often labeled as post punk and noise rock, although these terms fall short to describe their style, which is a sound equivalent of concrete, nighttime desert, a violent thunderstorm, and a mist. Maintaining that spark. An interview with Alex Edkins of METZ

Two days before the release of their spectacular fourth album – „Atlas Vending” – I called Alex Edkins – lead singer and guitarist of Toronto based noise rock giants – METZ. Despite early hours in Canada, he told me a lot about youth, paternity, looking back and the importance of live music. Continue Reading „Maintaining that spark. We are good at wasting a lot of time. Interview with Nick Sadler (Daughters)

If you’ve stuck with us for some time, you must have noticed that we are creating a fairly strong front of Daughters psycho fans. There is no need to deny it, it is better to quote an old saying – „A year without an interview with one of the Daughters members is a wasted year!”

I wish I could write a love song. An interview with Protomartyr

„He’s not very exuberant” – said our contact in Domino Records that gave us the possibility to do this interview. Hearing that wasn’t surprising. Joe Casey – lead singer of Protomartyr seems like a nice guy, but also gives you this vibe of a person that doesn’t like speaking to journalists. Continue Reading „I wish I could write a love song. Just be strong. Interview with Emma Ruth Rundle

This year supposed to be really important in Emma Ruth Rundle’s career. She became the curator of the Roadburn Festival, where she was also to play the first concert in 9 years with the Red Sparowes band. Later she had planned tour in Australia with Chelsea Wolfe. Instead, she devotes her free time to recovering at her home in Kentucky. We were supposed to talk in Tilburg, but we talked in the only way possible at the moment. Emma from her porch, me – from my small apartment in Warsaw. Continue Reading „Just be strong. Interview with Emma Ruth Rundle”
